In the original Hebrew record, these books formed a single volume called "The Acts of The Days" (i.e. annals) and this is how the name
“Chronicles” originated as a documented historical text book commencing with the days of Adam through to the days of Cyrus and the return of Judah from Babylonian Exile, a period of about 3,500
years.
The translators of the Greek Septuagint Version of the Chronicles gave this section of scriptures the title as "things left over", implying
their use as a supplement to Samuel and Kings. In reality the books of Chronicles contains both additional history to the books of Samuel and Kings as well as additional material.
In essence the contents of the books of Chronicles contain genealogies in the line of Israel down to the time of King David including the history of the
reigns of both David and Solomon.
