John’s second letter is addressed to an unnamed “elect lady," who seems to be a “mother” figure in the Church. John seems to
indicate that the kindness and hospitality shown by this woman and her family was being taken advantage of by those who were deceivers and held the spirit of “antichrist”. He warns her not to take these
people into her house in case they persuade her from the truth of God’s word.
