The book of Hosea marks the beginning of the 12 Minor Prophets which we are now reading.
Hosea prophesied in a dark and dismal period in Israel’s history, the period of Israel’s decline and fall due to their spiritual adultery.
The figures of marriage and adultery are a common symbol of God’s relationship with Israel, and this principle is brought home to us in the book of Hosea. However, later in his prophesy Hosea came to
fathom God’s love for his erring children and pleads with the nation to repent and return to their God and to avail themselves of His divine compassion which shows that He will not let Israel go.
