The book of Matthew is the first of the four gospel records and was written by the man Matthew who appears in the narrative of the gospel. He is
described as a publican, tax collector and disciple of Jesus Christ.
Matthews’s gospel record is the most detailed account of the teachings of Jesus and was written to convince Jewish people of the fact that Jesus
was the Messiah promised in the Old Testament. It is therefore a gospel for the people of Israel.
Significant passages appearing in Matthew’s gospel include the Sermon on the Mount and the parables of Jesus.
