Nahum

Written by Nahum, whose name means “comforter”, the beginning of this book shows the comfort God can provide by defending his people from their enemies. The prophecy then goes on to demonstrate a practical example of this principle by showing us a vivid prediction of the approaching downfall of Nineveh, the capital city of Assyria, one of the most warlike of the ancient nations and an enemy of God’s people. True to the prophetic word, Nineveh, one of the great centres of ancient power, was utterly destroyed (Nahum 3:7)and whereas ruins can be found of other ancient cities of repute, very little remains of Nineveh’s, showing that the city was truly “laid waste”.
