It is evident that Nehemiah wrote this book himself as there are many parts of it written in the first person although it is said that Ezra may also have
contributed to certain portions of it.
The book of Nehemiah, like Ezra, is a historical account of the rebuilding of Jerusalem following the Jews’ exile in Babylon and subsequent return
and is in many ways a continuation of the book of Ezra. Other notable parts of the book cover the registration of those who returned from Jerusalem, the census of the adult male population, together with the lists
of the Priests and Levites including their responsibilities for correct worship.
