Numbers

This is the fourth book written by Moses and is so named because of the two censuses or numberings of Israel’s people related in it; the first at Sinai in the second year of the exodus and the second on the plains of Moab opposite Jericho at the end of the exodus.

The book also covers many of the historical events and incidents throughout Israel’s wilderness journey and in all these events, Moses describes the guiding hand of God, sustaining, delivering, and keeping His promise with His people, as He prepares them for entering the land promised to Abraham.

Notable passages in the book include the vow of the Nazarite in Numbers 6, the spies’ report of the Promised Land in Numbers 14 and the death of Aaron in Numbers 20.
