Hell is the grave...
Hell’ is an Anglo-Saxon word for grave ( a hell-grond was a graveyard) and in the Old Testament is usually translated from an original Hebrew word meaning pit or grave; or in the New Testament from an original Greek word meaning grave or hell, or another Greek word used for the place where refuse was incinerated and completely destroyed outside Jerusalem.
Ecclesiastes 9:4-6, 10
For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun... ...Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Psalms 146:3-4

Psalms 49:12-14
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
