Signs of the times

This blog page is a digest of our thoughts on world events as they relate to the coming of the Kingdom of God. We try to update it regularly, particularly when things happen that seem significant in the light of Bible prophecy.

On one day

On one day in June the world witnessed two of the clearest signs that the Lord Jesus Christ gave to indicate his imminent return.
Friday 26th June 2015 was a day of violence in several places.

Unfolding prophecy concerning the return of Jesus Christ

Regular readers of this feature will be familiar with Bible passages we cite to show that the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth to replace the kingdoms of men with the Kingdom of God will start with his rescue of Israel from invading nations. Some passages, like Psalm 83, refer to the threat to Israel from her immediate neighbours; others, like Joel 3 and Zechariah 14 refer to ‘all nations’; whereas Daniel 11:40-45 and Ezekiel 38 and 39 name particular countries with varying degrees of clarity. Some Bible students believe that the final conflicts will begin with Israel’s near neighbours and end with nations further away taking advantage of Israel’s weakened state.

Running to and fro

Towards the close of Daniel's life he was shown a glimpse of the world situation before divine intervention.
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Daniel 12:1-4

Russia in Syria

In an earlier Signs of the Times we commented on Russian readiness to invade other countries and the current economic pressures that might tempt her to invade Israel – as Bible prophecy leads us to expect.  These expectations have been further strengthened recently by Russia’s military activities in Syria.

Happy New Year

The ancient Romans had a god named Janus.  He was a two-faced god whose image was placed above doorposts enabling him to look forward and backward. Not only has the name survived in the title of the first month in our calendar but the customs associated with looking forwards and backwards also feature in modern life. A new start is often characterised by making resolutions through which we weigh up our lives with the intention of improving things in the coming year. Christadelphians look for signs that indicate a better world to come; one in which Jesus will return to restore the world as God would wish.
